Barcelona-based LNG engineer Sener revealed that Bolivia’s “virtual gas pipeline” in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in the Río Grande region was inaugurated on Monday.
The EPC consortium led by Sener designed, constructed and started up the “virtual gas pipeline” that includes a liquefied natural gas plant that has the capacity to produce 210 tons of LNG per day, a fleet of cryogenic transport trucks and mobile regasification plants as well as a number of satellite regasification stations.
The production facility also has the capacity to store up to 3000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, giving it the ability to supply gas to households in different parts of Bolivia, including San Julián, San José de Chiquitos and Tupiza, Sener said in a statement.
LNG produced at the facility will be transported by cryogenic trucks to 27 satellite stations where it will be stored in tanks and further distributed to municipalities and gas stations.
YPFB, the state-owned company that owns the installation, said the service will be expanded at a later date to additional 33 municipalities that otherwise would not have access to gas.
