Brazil’s state-owned Petrobras is reportedly set to receive the first LNG cargo produced at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction and export facility in Louisiana.
The deal was struck on Monday according to unnamed sources, Bloomberg reports.
Cheniere began producing liquefied natural gas from its first train last week while loading operations began earlier this week following the Sunday arrival to the facility of Chevron’s 160,000 cbm carrier Asia Vision.
It remains unclear how long it will take to load the commissioning cargo or when the vessel will depart for Brazil that is increasing its LNG imports as severe droughts have forced it to depend more on gas-fired power plants.
According to Gas Energy consultancy, Petrobras imported 80 LNG cargoes in 2015, while another 50 are expected in 2016.
Once the commissioning phase is over at the Sabine Pass export facility, first commercial cargo will be loaded by Shell’s newly acquired BG Group.
