The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced a total grant award of €4.3 million to 15 new marine energy projects underway in 2016 under its Prototype Development Fund.
The announcement was made as SEAI in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland hosts an ‘Ireland open for business’ exhibition at the 6th International Conference for Ocean Energy in Edinburgh.
The 15 projects receiving funding from SEAI in 2016 are as follows: BirdWatch Ireland, Blue Power Energy, CADFEM Ireland, Coneng Consultancy (trading as Waveworks), DP Energy Ireland, ESB, Frontier Engineering Group (trading as JJ Campbell and Associates), GKinetic Energy, GRSI, New Wave Technologies Ltd (trading as Ocean Energy), NSAI, ORPC Ireland, Sea Energies, Sea Power, Swirl Generators, and Tocardo Ireland.
Declan Meally , Head of Emerging Sectors at SEAI, said: “The government through its departments and agencies (led by DCENR) is dedicated to developing an indigenous ocean energy industry, which is a real opportunity that will deliver future economic and societal benefits for the citizens of Ireland. To that end, collaboration, both nationally and internationally, is key. With a sea area ten times our land mass, this market has the potential to be worth €15 billion to Ireland’s economy by 2050.”
SEAI is Ireland’s national energy agency that aims to transform Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices.
