Gazprom Germania, a German unit of Gazprom Export said on Wednesday it has completed the first LNG bunkering operation at the port of Rostock.
The operation was carried out on February 27, when the Greenland, the LNG-powered cement carrier operated by the Norwegian shipping company KG Jebsen Cement, bunkered liquefied natural gas, Gazprom Germania said in a statement. LNG was transported to Rostock by a road tanker.
Back in 2014 Gazprom signed a deal with the Port of Rostock to cooperate in the LNG market, focusing on development, marketing and usage of liquefied natural gas in road transport and shipping within the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The LNG-powered cement carrier was delivered at the end of December last year from the Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smith. The 110 meter-long Greenland was built for the joint venture JT cement, in which shipping company Erik Thun cooperates with KG Jebsen Cement of Norway.
