S. B. Submarine Systems, a joint venture between China Telecom and Global Marine Systems UK, (SBSS) has been awarded the contract for ROV inspection of the Hainan 500kV cable system by China Southern Grid.
SBSS said it will mobilize its cable ship Fu An and Sea Lion III ROV from Shanghai to undertake the work in early March.
According to the company, the cable survey is the most extensive survey of the Hainan cable since installation.
SBSS will carry out a full topographical and geomorphological survey of the 31-km submarine cable route to assess cable burial depth, and subsea obstacle detection. In addition, a video survey will be used to identify any at-risk areas following the tropical storm “rainbow” which passed through the area in 2015.
