TE SubCom to Upgrade AAE-1 Cable System

TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity company, and the consortium behind the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) cable system, announced the deployment of a large-scale wavelength equipage to the system.

The equipage will utilize TE SubCom’s 100 Gbps optical transmission equipment.

AAE-1 is a 25,000 km system owned by a consortium of 19 global service providers that will connect Southeast Asia to Europe across Egypt, connecting Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.

“As the project supplier, we are honored to be part of AAE-1’s continuing expansion,” said Aaron Stucki , president, TE SubCom. “Our company’s extensive technology portfolio, installation experience and familiarity with the system makes us an ideal partner to deliver a seamless upgrade to meet the forecasted capacity demand across the regions.”

“AAE-1 is among the largest, most complex systems ever constructed and TE SubCom’s portion includes 12 branching units, 16 landings, and over 19,000 km of cable,” said Joseph Chan and Ellen Pan , co-chairpersons of the AAE-1 Management Committee. “The scope and experience of TE SubCom’s R&D, manufacturing and installation resources are critical to implementing a project of this size and complexity. AAE-1 is 70 percent complete and we are confident that TE SubCom will complete the project as planned.”

This additional equipage of AAE-1 will utilize TE SubCom’s C100U+ technology, which has the potential of improving the spectral efficiency in the fibers. This is the first capacity upgrade of the system and it is expected to be delivered when the system achieves ready for provisional acceptance (RFPA).
