Ocean Rig’s semi-submersible drilling rig Leiv Eiriksson arrived at Westcon Yards in Ølen, Norway, last night, before starting a drilling contract with Lundin.

Westcon was hired by the offshore drilling contractor Ocean Rig to prepare the rig for the contract with the oil and gas company.

The contract with Lundin is for a minimum of 3 wells in the Barents Sea.

The 2001-built rig is scheduled to start this contract in the third quarter of 2016, but before that it will undergo a yard stay in Norway.

“We are very satisfied with winning this project in a demanding market situation. Westcon will prepare the rig for use in the Barents Sea. Among other things, this includes winterization and installation of third supplier equipment,” says Malvin Eide , rig manager at Westcon.

According to Westcon, at the moment, Transocean’s rigs Polar Pioneer and Henry Goodrich are at the quays.

Further, Prosafe’s Safe Scandinavia was recently mobilized from to the yard to the Oseberg Øst installation in the North Sea to start drilling support operations for Statoil, and Dolphin Drilling’s semi-sub Borgland Dolphin left Westcon Yards earlier this week.
