Van Oord has purchased a suite of Gemini 720is multibeam imaging sonars from Tritech International.

The Gemini 720is sonars, combined with Gemini SeaTec software, will be used on Van Oord’s Stingray.

The system will also be used for obstacle avoidance on rock dump vessels.

Vanessa Venida , Chief Surveyor, said: “We tested the Gemini 720id to discover that the 20 degree vertical beam provided us with the best overall performance for the dredging, marine engineering and energy projects we undertake. At Van Oord we have seen the true benefit in moving to multibeam technology for imaging sonars and due to the improved performance and the enhanced software capabilities of the new model, we are adopting the Gemini 720is as our standard for our offshore operations.”

Scott McLay , Tritech Sales Director, added: “With the launch of the next generation of multibeam imaging sonar, the delivery of 6 Gemini 720is sonars to Van Oord along with Gemini SeaTec software specifically adapted to their requirements, highlights the market confidence in our multibeam technology and emphasises our ability to innovate existing provisions to improve customer operations.”
