Finland’s Cinia and Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN) have completed tests on the C-Lion1 submarine cable system demonstrating a record-breaking capacity of 18 Tbit/s of data per fiber pair.
Finland gave a go-ahead for the C-Lion1 submarine data cable across the Baltic Sea in November 2014. The cable system is 1,172 kilometers in length and consists of eight optical fiber pairs with a total capacity of 144 terabits per second (18 Tbit/s x 8 fiber pairs).
The laying project of the Cinia C-Lion1 cable system started in Helsinki on October 12, 2015, and completed early this year when the cable reached its destination in Rostock, Germany.
