The image shows Fred. Olsen’s wave energy device Lifesaver which was deployed at US Navy’s WETS off Hawaii between March 22-25, 2016.

The Lifesaver, a ring-shaped WEC buoy, is being tested to obtain operational data on this particular ocean renewable energy conversion technology.

The buoy, an advanced electro‐mechanical point absorber WEC platform, converts energy generated by passing waves into electrical energy.

The project is managed by Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC), with Sound & Sea Technology as the assembly and installation contractor, and Fred. Olsen, a Norwegian company, as the technology developer providing WEC performance data to the Hawaiian Natural Energy Institute for analysis.
