Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill two exploration wells in the North Sea using the Songa Delta semi-sub.
According to the safety authority, drilling of the two wells, 30/11-12 S and 30/11-12 A, is estimated to last for 45 days, depending on whether a find is made.
Drilling will be performed by the drilling rig Songa Delta, which is operated by the offshore drilling contractor Songa Offshore.
The rig was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in November 2012.
Songa Delta is a semi-submersible drilling unit, capable of operating in water depths up to 2,300 feet. It was built in 1981 by Rauma Repola Oy, Pori Finland.
Statoil is the operator for production licences 272 and 035.
