Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given Statoil the go-ahead to use the Stena Don semi-submersible rig for well drilling and completion in the North Sea.

The Norwegian oil and gas company will use the DP3 class rig for work on wells 35/11-B-22 and B-13 located in the Fram field.

The Stena Drilling-operated Stena Don is a Sonat/Hitachi-designed, semi-submersible rig built in 2001. The rig received PSA’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in March 2002.

Fram is an oil field in the northern North Sea around 20 kilometres north of Troll. Water depth in the area is around 350 metres.

The Fram oil finds in the North Sea comprise the Fram West and Fram East fields. Both field developments consist of subsea installations connected via pipelines to the Troll C platform.
