GE Oil & Gas said it has started production of four high-pressure, high-temperature (HP/HT) dynamic flexible risers for Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility.
GE informed in its statement on Monday, it will complete manufacture of the flexible risers at its facility in Newcastle, UK.
Andrew Atkinson, Commercial Director, Asia-Pacific and India at GE Oil & Gas , said, “Despite the industry downturn continuing to affect the LNG market, long-term we believe FLNG has the potential to evolve into a promising segment, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, where there are areas of high energy demand and the presence of large-scale offshore gas fields.”
The HP/HT risers have been designed to stay connected and survive in a 1-in-10,000-year cyclonic event.
Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility, currently under construction at SHI’s Geoje shipyard, will be moored 475 kilometers north-east of Broome in Western Australia.
The Prelude FLNG facility is 488m long, 74m wide and along with its contents, will weigh around 600,000 tonnes.
Once operational, the Prelude FLNG facility will produce at least 5.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquids: 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate (equivalent to 35,000 bbl/d) and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.
