Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding said a naming ceremony for the second LNG carrier to serve the ExxonMobil-operated PNG LNG project has been held at the shipyard in Shanghai.

In a statement issued on Friday, Hudong informed the vessel with a capacity to transport 171,800 cbm of liquefied natural gas was named Kumul.

Like the first vessel, Papua , delivered in January last year, the Kumul was jointly invested in by Japan’s MOL, China Shipping Group and Sinopec.

The other two vessels, the Southern Cross and the Beidou Star were delivered in June and November, respectively.

Both vessels will transport the chilled gas from the Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia that recently halted production after shipping its first cargo in March.
