The Kings Bay Entrance Channel dredging project was successfully completed last week with the removal of 1.2 million cubic yards of material from the channel.
Material removed from the channel was placed on Nassau County beaches, the nearshore and Offshore Dredge Material Disposal Site (ODMDS).
Regional Sand Management at Kings Bay supports the beach project at Nassau County saving millions annually through the beneficial use of material. The entrance channel provides the safe passage of the Trident Submarines into Kings Bay.
A new contract award for the Kings Bay Inner Channel dredging project, which includes an option to support the Corps Support Facility at Blount Island was announced on April 8.
The contract awarded to Southern Dredging, Co. for $10.4 million, is scheduled for completion in December.
