Following a report earlier today on Statoil’s exploration drilling efforts in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, the company has been granted a drilling permit for two other wells in the same North Sea permit.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, a government agency whose task is to manage the oil and gas resources on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, has granted Statoil a drilling permit for wells 30/11-12 S and 30/11-12 A, in production licence 035, to be drilled with the Songa Delta semi-sub rig.

According to the agency, the drilling program for well 30/11-12 S relates to drilling of a wildcat well, while well 30/11-12 A is an appraisal well that will be drilled in the event of a discovery.

The area in this licence consists of part of block 30/11. Production licence 035 was awarded in licensing round 2-A in November 1969.

Statoil is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 per cent, and Det norske oljeselskap is a licensee with an ownership interest of 50 per cent.
