International course on marine renewable energy was recently held for the first time in the Netherlands which covered the latest in tidal and wave, salinity gradient and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) technologies.
The looked into the deatails of various marine energy technologies, as well as legislation, environmental impacts and financing issues.
It was held over three days at the Netherlands Water Partnership in the Hague, Bluewater’s facility in Hoofddorp, and Tidal Testing Centre in Den Oever.
Some fifteen guest lecturers taught the group about salinity gradient power, tidal barrage systems, tidal stream energy, OTEC and wave energy, according to Ocean Energy Systems.
Also, experienced engineers shared their practical knowhow on foundations, mooring systems, installation and novel energy storage concepts, in addition to offering an overview on the current state of marine energy.
The participants, comprised of both junior and senior contractors, engineers, consultants and researchers from the Netherlands and abroad, had the chance to visit the array of three tidal turbines in the Afsluitdijk, installed early in 2015 by Tocardo Tidal Turbines.
The next course is planned in the first week of October, 2016.
