CNOOC said on Friday that a 174,000 cbm LNG carrier, the largest ever built in China has been launched at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
The vessel, named Pan Asia is a dual-fuel diesel electric (DFDE) LNG tanker with a length of 290 meters, width of over 45 meters and a draft of over 26 meters.
It will be used to ship 1.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year from the Queensland Curtis LNG project in Australia to the world’s third largest LNG importer, China.
CNOOC that owns a 50 percent equity stake in QCLNG’s Train 1 has a deal in place for the supply of 3.6 mtpa for a period of 20 years.
Pan Asia is part of a four-vessel order placed by BG Group, now part of Shell, with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in July 2014.
All four vessels will operate under 20-year time-charter deals with Methane Services Limited, a unit of BG Group.
The ownership of the four vessels is split between Teekay, China LNG Shipping (CLNG), CNOOC Energy Technology & Services (CETS), a unit of CNOOC, and BW Group.
Deliveries of the four vessels are scheduled between 2017 and 2019.
