South Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) is hosting meetings on Jeju Island this week, in an effort to obtain international certification for the country’s renewable energy technology from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

On Thursday and Friday, IEC will hold a meeting on wind power technology, including floating offshore wind turbines designed by Korean companies.

The event, taking place from 18 to 22 April , brought together government officials and renewable energy industry experts from around the world to discuss the IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Renewable Energy Application (IECRE) aiming to adopt the international certification standards in the near future.

KATS will look into the implementation process of the IECRE system, which would improve the position of national shipbuilding and offshore construction companies in the global renewable energy market, the Korea Herald writes.
