Subsea specialist Aker Solutions has confirmed plans to reduce its UK subsea workforce capacity for about 280 permanent positions mainly in Aberdeen and London.
The company has already started consultation with employee representatives, claiming a continued market slowdown as the main reason behind its decision.
In an email statement to Offshore Energy Today , David Clark , Aker Solutions’ regional head for Europe and Africa was quoted as saying: “These are tough but necessary measures to help ensure we stay competitive during a challenging time for our industry.”
Aker Solutions has approximately 2,500 employees in the UK, and this week’s announcement will see 11 per cent of that number axed.
The news comes after the company last week unveiled it signed a new 10-year lease for the Kirkhill Avenue site in Dyce, Aberdeen, which has served as a joint subsea equipment manufacturing and subsea services facility for Aker Solutions since 1993.
