PTT of Thailand on Tuesday said it has signed an agreement with South Korea’s Kogas to cooperate on liquefied natural gas business.
According to a company statement, the parties agreed to cooperate on joint investment opportunities in LNG supply chain and securing LNG supply.
Information from the International Energy Agency reveals that Thailand is looking to increase the role of LNG in the country’s energy mix. In 2015, the country started importing LNG from Qatar on a 20-year deal for 2.7 bcm per year signed by PTT and Qatargas.
Thailand additionally signed preliminary long-term agreements with Shell and BP to take LNG from their global portfolios starting in 2017, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
However, Reuters reported in February that PTT is looking to delay its purchases of LNG from Shell due to a drop in domestic demand, cutting on LNG import projections for 2016.
