The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has just released this video about the installation of a cofferdam on the bank of the Savannah River.
Workers are installing the cofferdam as part of what will become the foundation for a series of Speece cones.
The cones, which are part of the dissolved oxygen injection system, will super-oxygenate river water and inject it back into the Savannah River to maintain current levels of dissolved oxygen as the shipping channel is deepened.
The Corps oversees the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP), including environmental mitigation. CDM Constructors is the prime contractor for the installation of the dissolved oxygen injection system.
The current construction schedule has the dissolved oxygen system ready for use in December 2017.
