Metocean Services International (MSI) has deployed a metocean mooring array offshore Tanzania for Shell (formerly BG).
With water depths ranging from 53m to 2,620m, the array comprises 2 AXYS Technologies WatchMate metocean buoys as well as 12 subsea moorings, measuring waves, currents and water quality parameters.
The project is expected to last 12 months and the data will be used as input to engineering design of surface and subsurface structures.
Deployment was conducted using the RK Offshore vessel Greta K, which had a second crane fitted and was modified in Cape Town specifically for this operation.
First Year of Measurements for McDermott Australia
In addition to Tanzania project, MSI has recently completed the first annual service of McDermott Australia Pty Ltd’s (MAPL) AXYS WatchMate current and wave buoy.
The buoy was sold to MAPL in 2014 accompanied by an installation and service contract for an initial 3 years.
The buoy is installed in 270m of water in the Ichthys field.
Real-time meteorological, current and directional spectral wave data is telemetered back to MSI via Inmarsat satellite and posted onto a client specific website. Data is also posted to an FTP site to allow MAPL personnel to use it to support the ongoing infield construction.
The project is expected to last 3 years before the buoy is recovered by MAPL following completion of its offshore work.
