Titan LNG on Tuesday informed it has managed the de-bunkering of an LNG-powered inland waterway barge, the Greenstream in the Dutch port of Moerdijk.
The LNG supplier to industrial customers and the shipping sector said in its statement that the operation was conducted in cooperation with Amulet Management & Services, Cryonorm and the Port of Moerdijk with support from the Port of Rotterdam.
According to Titan LNG, during the first ever de-bunkering operation of a liquefied natural gas-powered inland waterway barge, the LNG from the Greenstream was transferred to her sister barge, the Green Rhine, as the Greenstream was scheduled to return to the shipyard with empty storage tanks.
Michael Schaap, Marine Advisor at Titan LNG said, “After the transfer most of the remaining methane was consumed using the engine and then the tanks were purged with nitrogen.”
The 100 percent LNG-powered barge has been designed and built at Peters Shipyards in The Netherlands and is chartered by Shell.
