Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is investigating options of calling independent external experts to progress the development of wave energy sector.

In order for WES to ensure the projects with the most promise are taken forward, independent external experts may be called upon to carry out assessment of project applications and to complement the WES team during decision making processes.

WES has committed to supporting wave energy technology development until the technical and commercial risks are low enough for private investment to re-enter the sector.

Individuals appointed, either as part of an organization or sole traders, must have the technical knowledge, skills and experience in the wave energy sector, or from another industry with transferrable skills.

The areas may include, but will not be limited to: control systems, materials, hydraulics, structural analysis, hydrodynamics, health and safety, electrical infrastructure, computational fluid dynamics, foundations and moorings, power electronics, wave resource modelling, marine operations, project management, mechanical design, economics, insurance, certification, standards.

WES is managing wave energy converter R&D projects in priority areas requiring the most development and/or having the biggest impact on the future cost of energy, agreed by WES via stakeholder consultation including the WES Advisory Group.

Should WES decide to progress this procurement, it will publish a contract notice, possibly in July this year.
