German wave energy company SINN Power has started the long-term trials of its wave energy converter module installed in Crete, Greece.

The aim of the long-term tests is to measure the generated electricity and evaluate the long-term functionality of the components, SINN Power informed.

The module is installed at at the end of the breakwater wall of Heraklion’s port, where the inauguration ceremony took place on May 6.

SINN Power also plans to install a floating wave energy converter for further tests by the end of the year.

In parallel to this, SINN Power and the Heraklion Port Authorities have applied for EU funds to install additional modules at the port.

The SINN Power’s wave energy converter works as the up and down motion of the waves lift the floating bodies of the individual modules.

The floating bodies in turn lift a rod that runs through a generator unit, generating electricity.
