The phase 2 of the Exeter flood defense scheme will begin this June with the construction activities to take place over the next 2 years.
The project – managed by the Environment Agency, Exeter City Council and Devon County Council – will cost around £32 million to complete and benefits from £6 million of government growth funding which was set aside to promote economic growth in places affected by flooding.
The project is split into 2 phases: phase 1 is now substantially complete and phase 2 construction starts in June 2016.
Construction work on the phase 1 downstream of Exeter Quay began in 2014. The Trew’s flood relief channel and the side spill weir at the top of the channel have been lowered.
The check weir at the downstream end of the flood relief channel will be removed in 2016 to increase capacity further.
