California-based clean energy technology manufacturer HeliosAltas has formed a partnership with DA Green Power Consultancy (DAGPC) to deploy its in-river Helios PowerWheel technology in the Philippines.

The value of the agreement over the first four years is set for a minimum of $16.2 million.

HeliosAltas’ technology is expected to provide zero emission renewable energy to the Philippine power grid as well as power to remote villages isolated from the grid.

The Helios PowerWheel is a suspended hydroelectric generator with the power output from 5 kW to 40 kW which can produce clean electricity from moving water in canals, industrial water loops, rivers, tidal flows and the base of dams.

It rises and falls with changing water levels automatically so it does not catch debris and allows full aquatic passage, according to HeliosAltas.

All of the generation components are contained within the shell of the unit, which can be installed in series or parallel in hydro farms to produce megawatts of power.

Archimedes Flores , CEO of DAGPC, said: “This unique renewable technology can provide consistent baseload power at a significant cost savings to our customers. We already have a backlog of installations for the first year with more projects in discussion.”

The exact location and the timeframe for the project were not disclosed.

DAGPC is a consultancy and wholesale electricity spot market trading team composed of experts from different sectors of the Philippine Electric Power Industry and the Business Sector.
