French oilfield services supplier Technip will supply an umbilical for Statoil’s Oseberg Vestflanken 2 field offshore Norway.

This field is situated some eight kilometers North West of the Oseberg field center at block 30/9-30/6 in the North Sea offshore Norway, at water depths of 100 meters.

The contract covers project management, engineering and manufacture of over 9 kilometers of static steel tube umbilical. The umbilical, an assembly of steel tubes and/or hydraulic hoses which can also include electrical cables or optic fibres used to control subsea structures from a platform or a vessel, includes a large bore integrated service line and multiple power cables.

Technip Umbilicals, a subsidiary of the French company which last week announced merger with FMC Technologies , will build the goods needed in its facility in Newcastle, UK. The project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2017 .

Sarah Cridland , Managing Director of Technip Umbilicals, said: “As a company we have invested significantly in our Newcastle facility and it is encouraging to see the award of contracts, such as Oseberg, from this. This is an extremely important recognition to Technip Umbilicals from Statoil.”

Statoil and its partners submitted the plan for development and operation (PDO) of the North Sea Oseberg Vestflanken 2 in December 2015. The development will provide in excess of 100 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The Oseberg Vestflanken development will consist of an unmanned wellhead platform with 10 well slots. The wells will be remote-controlled from the nearby Oseberg field center.
