The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given permission to use the Island Constructor for start-up and repair of wells on the Shell-operated Draugen field.
Draugen is an oil field in the Norwegian Sea in 250 metres of water, around 150 km north of Kristiansund. The field has been developed using a fixed concrete facility with an integrated deck. Stabilised oil is stored in tanks in the base of the facility.
Designed by Ulstein Design AS (Ulstein SX 121) and launched in February 2008 from the Ulstein Verft shipyards in Norway, the Island Constructor (Hull no. 279) is Island Offshore’s offshore construction and well intervention vessel.
The vessel received the PSA’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in September 2010. In April 2015 , the Island Constructor was given green light for activities at well 6407/09-A-555-H on the Draugen field.
Earlier this year, Island Valiant was tasked with IMR work (Inspection, Maintenance and Repair) on three Draugen wells, preparing them for the work which Island Constructor will perform later this summer.
According to Island Offshore the Island Constructor is assigned three jobs with different duration, starting in the early summer with Light Well Intervention (LWI) and scale squeeze on two wells at Draugen. In August/September the vessel will return for two more jobs involving LWI and IMR work.
