Christy Clark, the prime minister of the Canadian province of British Columbia renewed an LNG agreement B.C. has with Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC).
The memorandum of understanding extension, signed during Clark’s visit to Japan focuses on advancing B.C.’s LNG sector and natural gas related technologies.
JOGMEC has an equity position in four LNG and natural gas projects currently under development in B.C. – the Cordova Embayment, the Cutbank Ridge Partnership, Pacific NorthWest LNG and Aurora LNG, premier Clark’s office said in a statement.
Additionally, the premier met with Mitsubishi, a joint stakeholder in LNG Canada with Shell, PetroChina and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) and Japan Petroleum Exploration Company (JAPEX) to discuss its partnership in the Pacific NorthWest LNG project.
Japanese companies are some of the major investors in British Columbia’s LNG projects.
According to the office of the premier, B.C. has enough natural gas supply to support production and LNG exports for more than 80 years.
Premiere Clack concluded that extending the province’s relationship with Japan, the world’s largest importer of liquefied natural gas is the key for the development of its LNG industry.
