Sustainable Marine Energy (SME) is conducting submergence tests of its PLAT-O tidal energy platform ahead of the announced installation at one of EMEC’s test berths.
According to the notice to mariners issued by Orkney Islands Council, four 6 tonne clumps will be in place on the seabed north west of Hatston, Kirkwall, starting from yesterday, June 6.
SME will lift PLAT-O tidal energy platform into the water, secured with weights, today, June 7, to undertake submergence tests of the device.
SME is preparing to deploy PLAT-O floating tidal platform at EMEC’s Fall of Warness grid-connected tidal testing site, and has engaged an Orkney based marine renewables service provider, Leask Marine, to prepare the deployment site for the device.
Leask Marine, scheduled to deploy PLAT-O this summer, already provided multi-cat C-Salvor and C-Odyssey vessels to conduct operations related to mooring, subsea cabling, diving and crane operations from May 26 to June 1, 2016.
The period of operations will extend from June 11 to 17, 2016.
