Offshore contractor Jan De Nul has completed the setup of scour protection (first phase) around the 51 foundations of the Nobelwind project.
The scour protection is part of the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract the company signed with the offshore wind project Nobelwind in September 2015.
The fall pipe vessel Simon Stevin was used for the erosion protection project, which consists of a light filter layer (first phase) and a heavier coating layer specifically designed for various locations and water depths.
Reportedly, this protection should remain stable for the next 25 years, both in deeper than shallower zones.
The new 165MW Belgian offshore wind power plant Nobelwind will be installed 46 km off the coast at Zeebrugge. It will be connected to the Belgian power grid through an export cable previously installed by Jan De Nul in 2013.
