Marine environmental consultancy, Hartley Anderson, on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, is currently welcoming applications to tender for a study to model underwater sound propagation during geophysical surveys and predict received sound levels for marine mammals.

Several seismic survey scenarios representative of activities regularly undertaken by the oil & gas industry across the UK continental shelf will be modelled and the effects of different approaches and input variables will be compared to achieve a thorough understanding of sound exposure estimates.

The results from this modelling study will be used to develop guidance for future noise risk assessments for activities generating impulsive sound under the DECC Offshore Energy Strategic Environmental Assessment programme.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is July 15, 2016.
