German-based wave energy developer NEMOS has manufactured the full-scale power-take off unit for its wave energy system.

After several years of development work and scale testing, the innovative power take-off (PTO) unit which presents the centerpiece of the NEMOS wave energy converter has been constructed in full dimensions, the company informed.

The engineers at NEMOS plan to conduct several tests of the PTO before the deployment of the device in the North Sea next year.

Furthermore, NEMOS is performing tests on the anchor systems by simulating the cyclic loads expected in real sea conditions, and providing the empirical models for dimensioning the anchors of the large-scale device, according to NEMOS.

As reported earlier, NEMOS hired a marine engineering firm MacGregor to supply winches which will be used with its mooring system comprised of two fibre ropes.

The first commercial NEMOS pilot project will be located at the DanWEC test site in Hanstholm, off the Danish west coast, and should be fully operational during 2017.
