In preparation for the rainy season, the local government of San Fernando recently purchased an hydraulic backhoe excavator that will be used in dredging river channels surrounding the city.

The equipment was inaugurated last Friday at the Mapalad Creek in Brgy. San Nicolas through the initiative of the City Engineer’s Office in line with the River Management Program.

Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago said that the recently purchased equipment will seek to address perennial flooding problems in the city especially in low-lying barangays located near riverbanks and creeks.

This includes barangays Juliana, Lourdes, Pandaras, San Felipe, San Jose, San Nicolas and Sta. Teresita.

“ Our city is one of the catch basins of floodwaters in the province but we take steps to prevent severe flooding in order to avoid damages and casualties ,” he added.

Also present during the event were Vice- Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor BJ Lagman, Councilor Tino Dizon, City Engineer Efren De Leon, Chief of Staff Engr. Remedios Agoncillo and City Hall employees.
