PLOCAN hosts MRE challenges seminar

Representatives from two Canary Islands-based firms, Raley Estudios Costeros and Hexia, held a seminar on marine renewable energy challenges yesterday, June 23, at PLOCAN.

Representatives from two Canary Islands-based firms, Raley Estudios Costeros and Hexia, held a seminar on marine renewable energy (MRE) challenges yesterday, June 23, at PLOCAN.

Leire Fernández Prieto, Director of Projects for Raley Estudios Costeros, and Amanda Alonso Lorenzo, Training Co-ordinator for Hexia, gave a talk entitled ‘Marine Renewable Energy: challenges, opportunities and specialised training’.

Raley Estudios Costeros is a consultancy firm that specialises in oceanography and coastal management, while Hexia specialises in online training management.

The talk was organized in the scope of the PLOCAN Marine and Maritime Demonstration Center and contributed to the dissemination and training in marine renewable energy.

Marine renewable energy was identified as an emerging area with many current and future opportunities to revive the economy and generate employment, while at the same time encouraging greater and better use of marine environmental resources.

In addition, from this year, this training is now certified by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, PLOCAN informed.

PLOCAN (Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands) is a research facility co-funded by the Economy and Competitiveness Ministry of the Spanish government and the Canary Islands government, with the aim of supporting the research and development in the fields of ocean science and technology.
