Statoil’s Mariner B floating storage unit (FSU) is on its way to Scotland from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.
A naming ceremony for the Mariner B FSU was held in April in South Korea.
Norwegian oil company Statoil on Monday launched a video of the 255 meters long Mariner B FSU leaving the shipyard. The FSU is part of the Mariner development on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea, approximately 150 kilometers east of the Shetland Isles.
The company said that the unit has a storage capacity of 850,000 barrels of oil and is built to be operated for at least 30 years on the field without docking during that time period.
The voyage to its destination will take approximately 75 days.
In December 2012, Statoil made the decision to develop the Mariner project, which entails a gross investment of more than $7 billion. The development of the Mariner field will contribute more than 250 mmbbls reserves with average plateau production of around 55,000 barrels per day.
The concept chosen for the Mariner field includes a production, drilling, and quarters (PDQ) platform based on a steel jacket, with an FSU. Drilling will be carried out from the PDQ drilling rig, with a jack-up rig assisting for the first 4 to 5 years.
The steel jacket has already been put in place in September 2015 , while the drilling will be done through the jacket via jack-up rig Noble-Lloyd-Noble.
Statoil is the operator of the Mariner field with 65.11% equity. Co-venturers are JX Nippon Exploration and Production (28.89%) and Dyas UK (6%).
