Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) started the Bréanann 3D seismic program, located in the Frontier Exploration Licence 3/14 in the Porcupine Basin, Irish Atlantic, on June 27 for the Australian energy company Woodside.

Woodside is the operator of licences FEL 3/14 and FEL 4/14 in the Irish Atlantic with 85% interest, and Petrel Resources is its partner with 15% carried interest.

According to Petrel’s statement on Thursday, the Bréanann 3D seismic program is expected to complete within 5 weeks, but the processed and interpreted results will require many months thereafter.

Woodside received environmental approvals for the Granuaile and Bréanann 3D marine seismic surveys from the Department of Communications, Climate Change, & Natural Resources in Ireland in May.

Petrel also said that the total program is over 2,400 km2, of which circa 40% relates to FEL 3/14, in which Petrel has a 15% carried interest.

Following the approval in May, the Ramform Vanguard survey vessel and its support vessels mobilized to the Granuaile survey area in the Southern Porcupine Basin, about 150km south-west off the Co. Cork coast.
