Small fire at the Samsung Heavy Industries’ shipyard in South Korea interrupted work at Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility leaving two workers in need of medical attention.
Shell spokesman confirmed there was a small incident on the construction site, adding that two people received medical treatment for minor smoke inhalation returning to work the following day.
The construction activity resumed immediately with the cause of accident under investigation.
As LNG World News understands, the construction schedule has not been impacted by the incident.
Shell is yet to set an exact schedule for the Prelude FLNG facility, however, the company’s CEO Ben van Beurden in April said that the real material cash from the giant Prelude FLNG is expected in 2018.
Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility is the largest of its kind with 488m in length and 74m in width, and it will be moored 475 kilometers north-east of Broome in Western Australia.
Once it arrives at the Prelude gas field it will be connected to the subsea system and when in operation, the Prelude FLNG facility will produce at least 5.3 million tonnes (mtpa) per annum of liquids: 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate (equivalent to 35,000 bbl/d) and 0.4 mtpa of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
