The official commissioning ceremony of the trailing suction hopper dredger Severnaya Dvina was held yesterday in Arkhangelsk, Russia.

Following the flag hoisting ceremony on board TSHD Severnaya Dvina, Rosmorport and Damen Shipyards Group carried out the signing of the acceptance/delivery certificate.

During the ceremony, Executive Director of FSUE Rosmorport Andrei Lavrishchev emphasized that the new ship will ensure depth required for safe navigation at the seaport of Arkhangelsk as well as other Arctic ports.

Vadim Krivov, Transport Minister of the Arkhangelsk Region, said: “ Commissioning of the Severnaya Dvina dredger will open a new page in the records of Rosmorport’s Arkhangelsk branch. It is a significant contribution of the company into the development of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic zone. ”

The dredger, named after the river which flows into the Dvina Bay of the White Sea near Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk, is going to be used mainly for maintaining the specified depths in the water area and at the approaches to the seaport of Arkhangelsk.

Damen tailored this TSHD 2000 design to meet the high specifications required to operate the vessels in the severe weather conditions of the northern region, with air temperatures ranging from -35°C to +40°C.
