France’s fourth LNG import terminal in the port of Dunkirk (Dunkerque) celebrated another milestone after recently receiving its first commissioning cargo .

Dunkirk LNG, the operator of the LNG import facility, said on Wednesday it has achieved the first send-out from Europe’s newest LNG terminal to French gas grid, operated by GRTgaz.

This event marked the conclusion of the first in a series of tests undertaken since the arrival of the Madrid Spirit on July 8, Dunkirk LNG said.

The operator added that the liquefied natural gas delivered by the Madrid Spirit was stored in the tank 3, with LNG levels reaching 20 meters on July 18. The two remaining storage tanks will be gradually prepared for the arrival of the second cargo.

The second commissioning cargo is expected to arrive at the LNG import terminal on August 7.

Dunkirk LNG is 65% owned by EDF, 25% by Fluxys and 10% by Total. Upon commissioning, the LNG terminal will be operated by Gaz-Opale, 51% owned by Dunkirk LNG and 49% by Fluxys.
