Finnish wave energy developer Wello has teamed up with Korean company BSR to establish a wave energy demonstration project in Korea.

Wello signed a letter of intent with BSR on July 18, 2016, which will see two companies collaborating on the construction of a wave energy power plant.

Wello’s role is to bring technology expertise into the project, while BSR will provide the expertise in energy plant building, Wello informed.

The project aims to develop more energetic and profitable wave energy converter technology and find the best practices for utilizing the local Korean expertise in building devices.

Wello has developed wave energy device known as the Penguin which converts the waves to electricity with continuous rotational movement.

Asymmetrical shape of the hull creates a gyration movement in waves which makes the generator inside the hull rotate.

In a floating element, motion energy is directly captured by a generator, resulting in conversion from movement to electricity, thus avoiding the need for hydraulics.
