Navantia has delivered the first jackets to Iberdrola for its Wikinger offshore wind farm located in the German part of the Baltic Sea.

The delivery of the remaining components will continue throughout August, completing the contract signed on 18 December 2014 by the two companies.

The contract involved the consortium Navantia-Windar which was tasked with the construction and delivery by barge of 29 jackets from Navantia’s Fene shipyard, and 116 piles from Windar facilities in Aviles.

The fist jackets set sail from Spain on 12 July from Windar facilities.

The EUR 1.4 billion Wikinger offshore wind farm with the capacity of 350MW will feature 70 wind turbines, and cover the area of about 34 square kilometres.

By the time it is connected to the grid in late 2017, Wikinger wind farm is expected to produce enough energy to meet the electricity needs of over 350,000 German households.
