After installing the final wind turbine foundation at DONG Energy’s 256MW Burbo Bank Extension wind farm in Liverpool Bay last week, Van Oord’s heavy lift vessel Svanen has set sail to the Belfast Harbour, Northern Ireland, to undergo repairs and outfitting, according to the port.
Svanen’s last project included the installation of 32 foundations for the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm located 8 km off the coast in Liverpool Bay, United Kingdom.
Van Oord was responsible for the installation of the foundations, supply and installation of the scour protection and provided the logistics of the foundations between the fabrication ports in Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the offshore wind farm.
During the installation process, the company used the so-called ”feeder concept”, bringing foundation components floating to the Svanen at the installation site. The Svanen has already installed over 500 monopiles using this method.
Van Oord will use the same vessel and the same method to install 60 monopiles and transition piece foundations at the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The installation works are planned for 2017.
