The 159,800-cbm Maran Gas Delphi, chartered by Anglo-Dutch giant Shell, is the third LNG vessel to transit the newly expanded Panama Canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
The Greek-flagged vessel, that has recently loaded the 20th LNG cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine pass export plant in Louisiana, is currently located at the canal’s new locks at Agua Clara, according to AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website, MarineTraffic.
This is the second Shell-chartered vessel and the second tanker ever to carry a cargo of U.S. LNG through the expanded canal.
The Maran Gas Apollonia was the first LNG tanker to transit the canal.
According to a statement by the Panama Canal on Tuesday, 69 Neopanamax vessels transited the expanded canal since the inauguration on June 26.
Specifically, 40 containerships, 24 LPG carriers, three vehicle carriers and two LNG carriers have passed trough the expanded canal, the statement said.
