Mexican drilling contractor Grupo R has informed that its first two jack-ups, Cantarell I and Cantarell II, have started operations for the Mexican state-owned oil company Pemex.
According to Grupo R, the rigs started their work on Monday, August 1, 2016, in the Mexican Gulf of Mexico.
The Cantarell I and Cantarell II, of a KFELS B Class design, were chartered by Pemex for work in the Cantarell oil field.
The rigs were built by Keppel Offshore & Marine’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Keppel FELS. They were named at the end of May 2015 and delivered to its owner in March 2016 . These are the first two of five rigs that Keppel FELS is building for Grupo R.
The KFELS B Class jack-up is designed to operate in water depths of up to 400 feet and drill to depths of 30,000 feet.
Developed by Keppel’s Offshore Technology Development (OTD), the KFELS B Class jack-up is equipped with a fully-automated high capacity rack and pinion jacking system, and self-positioning fixation system. It has accommodation with full amenities for 150 persons.
