The Port of Hueneme CEO, Kristin Decas, yesterday hosted Col. Kirk E. Gibbs, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, to discuss and review plans for deepening and beach replenishment.

Earlier this year, the port and the Corps signed Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) to deepen the port’s general navigation areas to 40 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW).

With the signing of the PPA, both sides made commitment to advance the project for which the port will contribute 35% of the cost and USACE will fund the balance of the approximate $8 million project.

Deepening the general navigation areas of the Port of Hueneme is aimed to improve efficiency and allow ocean carriers to more fully utilize the cargo capacity of their vessels.

If all goes according to schedule, the deepening project will begin in December with the completion set for next summer.
