Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia (EPG) has built an accommodation block for Maersk Drilling’s jack-up rig Maersk Guardian in Poland.
EPG said on Thursday that, after a two-day loading process onto a special pontoon, the module sailed out from the Gdynia port in Poland.
The 1,140-ton heavy accommodation module for the Maersk Guardian will accommodate around 140 employees working on the rig.
Semco Maritime was in December 2015 put in charge of the rig’s accommodation expansion project. Construction of the accommodation module was the largest part of the rig refurbishing which also entails decommissioning of the cantilever including drilling package, an overhaul of auxiliary systems to support accommodation units, an overhaul of existing accommodation block on the rig and installation of new accommodation modules.
The rig is currently stacked in Frederikshavn where it has been located throughout the refurbishment period until its contract with Maersk Oil starts in September this year.
To remind, in December last year, the rig was awarded a contract with Maersk Oil for accommodation on various fields in the Danish part of the North Sea. The firm contract is for 5 years with two 1-year options.
Built in 1986 in Japan, the Maersk Guardian is designed for year-round operation in the North Sea in areas where the water depth is up to 107 meters. The hull of the rig is 90 m long, and 84,4 m wide, and the leg length is 132 meters.
