BAM Nuttall, a UK-based civil engineering firm, is in a leading position to build £300 million tidal hydro plant in Fleetwood, UK media report.
The 120MW hydro tidal plant in Fleetwood, proposed by Natural Energy Wyre (NEW), could be built by BAM Nuttall as the company is in a leading position to secure the civil works package, Bob Long, Managing Director of NEW told the Construction News.
BAM Nuttall is working with other project partners, including Mott MacDonald, General Electric, Andritz Hydro and Arcadis, to demonstrate the viability of the project for the investors, the Construction News reports.
“When it comes to contract for difference schemes it has to go out to tender, but we and Bam are confident that if they have been engaged from an early stage and if they are in price and budget of potential competitors, then we would be crazy for non-monetary reasons not to engage them,” Construction News quotes Bob Long as saying.
The proposed tidal hydro plant would produce 225GWh of clean energy annually, which is enough to cover the needs of 50,000 homes.
If the project receives the development consent for which the works are being carried out, the plant could become fully operational by 2020, according to Construction News.
